Food, glorious food

What goes in your mouth, produces feeling of euphoria as you taste, nibble, smell, bite, suck, and in the end, swallow? Mind out of the gutter here people!  For I am talking about one of the greatest pleasures in life, something that makes me excited in anticipation of experiencing it, the one, the only, the wondrous world of………. food!

I consider myself a massive foodie, in the bare fact that I just love eating and enjoying a yummy meal, I am in no way a food snob, I love food trucks, I will give a busy restaurant a go even if it looks like the interior hasn’t been touched since 1988, but I also love the entire experience of dining at a restaurant with a classy interior, exceptional service and of course, amazing cuisine.  Before I go on holiday I do my ‘dining out homework’, I research restaurants, I read reviews, sometimes I’ll make a booking if it’s really popular. I even go as far as googling the dining menu on the airline I’ll be flying, yep, that’s how excited I get about food.

Lucky for me, Melbourne is full of incredible dining options, being such a multicultural City means you could find just about every type of cuisine you can think of.

When I was a kid, the $10 a head banquet at the local Chinese restaurant was a family treat, we would go with Aunties and Uncles and cousins, usually taking up half the restaurant. The kids would always end up under the table, sitting on the floor covered in sticky rice whilst colouring in our colour books, bored rotten while the adults talked the night away and drank cask wine. Dad jokes that everyone used to race home and run for the loo after the banquet – I guess a funny tummy is the price you pay for quantity over quality!

The options for family dining have certainly expanded, as a kid for me it was either Chinese or Italian restaurants but now my kids get to enjoy Japanese, Cambodian, Nepalese, Greek, Thai, the list is endless. Spring rolls and prawn toasts have been replaced with pork belly,  antipasto, tapas  (I am still however partial to a good old fashioned spring roll, like I said, I’m no food snob!)  the colouring books have disappeared (sadly) and have been replaced with iPads and iPods.

I never thought Id become one of ‘those people’ who takes photos of their food but guess what, I have become one of ‘those people’. If I find something delicious, then I will be sharing it. Plus I have a pretty poor memory so it’s a good way for me to remember the eating out hot spots!

Enjoying good food is like a holiday for your tastebuds, you can send them round the world on a gastronomical tour without stepping foot out of your Country. Having said that, nothing quite compares to eating pizza in Italy, Pho in Vietnam, croissants in France and Bratwurst in Germany.

So join me if you are also a food lover, as I explore the wonderful world of food ♥
