3 Wise Monkeys, Mansfield Victoria
Well, what a year 2020 was. Ups, downs, downs, ups, eating, sitting, watching series after series on Netflix, eating, drinking and well, more eating. No travelling overseas. None. Nada. Diddly squat.
There was however, dreaming. Dreaming about all the amazing places we would go to when the borders reopened and we were allowed out of Melbourne lockdown round 2. We may have even been a bit advantageous and BOOKED, yes, booked a holiday for January. But surely everything would be ok by then….right?
Will we get there, will we just? At times it looked like the dream was over, it was a long road of restrictions, lockdowns and outbreaks. But like the story of the hare and the tortoise, slow and steady, we made it!
Off we headed to the beautiful town of Mansfield, located in regional Victoria which is approximately a 2 hour 20 minute drive from Melbourne.
As there were 10 of us – 5 adults and 5 kids, we needed large family friendly accomodation. We discovered The 3 Wise Monkeys through booking.com and the house was the perfect size to accomodate our group.

The property is conveniently located a short 3 minute drive from the heart of Town. With a large offering of cafes, restaurants, pubs, supermarkets and gift shops, the town provided all we needed to stock up our supplies.
Upon entering the property, we were excited to discover there was a resident horse, two curious cows and two very friendly chickens. As the surrounding High Country is abundant with wineries and quality produce, it was a lovely touch to receive a complimentary bottle of wine from the award winning Gapstead Winery.

Shortly after our arrival the kids were eyeing off the solar heated pool. As the weather was sunny and hot, the kids (and adults) spent much of our stay splashing about and enjoying the water and sunshine.

The pool and surrounding area has excellent lighting which made it great for evening swims on warm balmy nights. The location of the pool meant that it was a perfect spot for enjoying the incredible views of a High Country sunset.

A good tip is to take your pool toys and inflatables, we took along a plethora so there’s was plenty of options for floating, playing and relaxing.
The fully equipped kitchen and dining area is spacious, bright and airy. Featuring scenic views of the surrounding paddocks, it was a pleasant surprise to regularly find the cows grazing right outside the window. This zone was the perfect spot for entertaining and feeding the troops after a long day swimming in the pool.

The house has a large master bedroom with spacious ensuite and direct access to the decking with views of the pool. There is a second bedroom with a queen bed and two further rooms providing bedding for 6 people in 3 bunks.

Three of the bedrooms have a split system, great for the heat of summer or the chill of the Mansfield winters.
Bifold doors open out onto the decked outdoor zone which features a bbq, couch and dining table, making this space a great area for leisurely lunches and afternoon drinks on warm summer nights.
It was fantastic to spend time with the farm animals during our stay. A bucket of food was provided for feeding the cows and the chickens were usually found at the front door, waiting happily for a cuddle or a sneaky little snack! The horse was a little more unsure of the new occupants however would wander over to see what we were all about and on occasion would edge just close enough for a pat and a treat.

Our stay at 3 Wise Monkeys was simply magnificent and filled with days of fun, relaxation and happiness.
The property is wheelchair accessible and has everything a big group needs. With features like free wifi, Netflix, a basketball ring, seperate lounge areas and ample dining zones, it is the perfect space for a family or large group. Whilst there was 10 of us, the property can accomodate up to 12 guests.
Mansfield is a great location and one I highly recommend. We look forward to exploring more of Regional Victoria and continuing our Australian adventures.
